Set the Journal Storage Size for Queues

Use this procedure to set the journal size for Message Queuing queues.

You can use this procedure to set the journal size for Message Queuing queues. Set the journal size to specify the maximum cumulative size of all journal messages contained in the applicable queue journal.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To set the journal size for Message Queuing queues

  1. Click Start, point to Run, type compmgmt.msc, and press ENTER to display the Computer Management MMC console.

  2. In the console tree, right-click the applicable queue.

    Where?

    • Computer Management/Services and Applications/Message Queuing/YourQueueFolder (Public Queues or Private Queues)/YourQueue

  3. Click Properties.

  4. On the General page, in Journal, select the Limit journal storage to (KB) check box, and then type the total size (in kilobytes) of all journal messages that can be stored in the queue journal.

Additional considerations

  • The journal storage size limit, or quota, for a queue specifies the maximum cumulative size of all journal messages contained in the applicable queue journal. This quota can be any integer between 0 and 4,294,967,294.

  • The journal storage size limit is applicable only when target journaling is enabled.

  • When the journal storage size limit is reached, additional messages can no longer be placed in the queue journal until the cumulative size of the journal messages in the queue journal drops below the specified limit.

  • If you clear the Limit journal storage to (KB) check box, the journal size will be limited by the computer quota of the local computer.
