Network in a Failover Cluster

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

In a failover cluster, the network or networks must function correctly so that the nodes can maintain communication with each other and with clients.

Aspects

The following is a list of all aspects that are part of this managed entity:

Name Description

Cluster Network Connectivity

A failover cluster requires network connectivity among nodes and between clients and nodes. Problems with a network adapter or other network device (either physical problems or configuration problems) can interfere with connectivity.

IP Address Resource Availability

In a cluster, an IP Address resource is important because in most cases, other resources (such as a Network Name resource) depend on it. An IP Address resource can come online only if it is configured correctly, and is supported correctly by available networks and network configurations.

Network Name Resource Availability

In a cluster, a Network Name resource can be important because other resources depend on it. A Network Name resource can come online only if it is configured correctly, and is supported correctly by available networks and network configurations.
