Restoring the MIIS Database
Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2
The steps required to recover from an MIIS database failure vary according to the severity of the failure. Based on the severity of the failure, you might need to complete one or several steps, including recovering your MIIS 2003 server, recovering your SQL Server 2000 server, and restoring the MIIS database and the SQL Server 2000 system databases.
If you need to recover your server before you restore the MIIS database (for example, because of a server hardware failure), you will need to complete some or all of the following steps:
Reinstall the operating system on the server. Ensure that the server role is configured in the way that it was previously, either as a standalone server or as a member of an Active Directory® directory service domain. If the server is a standalone server, use the Windows Server 2003 Backup tool to restore the local Security Accounts Manager (SAM) database. Note that you can use the same server name or a different name.
Install SQL Server 2000. Use the same installation options that you used for the previous installation.
Restore the MIIS database and the SQL Server 2000 system databases. If you are not using the simple recovery model or if there are differential backups since the last full backup was created, you must also restore those differential backups to recover incomplete transactions.
Install MIIS 2003 on your server. Use the same configuration for the options that you used for the previous installation. When you are prompted for the encryption key during Setup, insert the disk that includes the MIIS 2003 encryption key.
The procedures for restoring the MIIS database are the same as those for restoring other SQL Server databases.
