Removing the Global Catalog

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

Removing the global catalog from a domain controller simply requires clearing the Global Catalog check box on the NTDS Settings object properties page. As soon as this is complete, the domain controller stops advertising itself as a global catalog server (Net Logon de-registers the global catalog-related records in DNS) and it immediately stops accepting LDAP requests over ports 3268 and 3269.
