REG_DWORD

0x10000–0x400000 (64 KB–4 MB)

0x10000 (64 KB)

Description

Specifies the maximum size of the Net Logon transaction log, Netlogon.chg. This limit applies to space allocated for the transaction log in physical memory and on disk in Systemroot\Netlogon.chg. The typical size of an entry is 32 bytes, so a 64 KB log holds approximately 2,000 entries.

This entry does not exist in the registry by default. You can add it by using the registry editor Regedit.exe.

Notes

  • The value of this entry should be the same on all backup domain controllers. This consistency ensures that if a backup domain controller is promoted to a primary domain controller, it has the same value in this entry as the other backup domain controllers.

  • Increasing the value of this entry to 4 MB does not degrade system performance. The 4 MB setting ensures that only those segments of the domain's database that changed are replicated.

  • For Windows Server 2003, the Net Logon transaction log records only those replication-related changes involving servers running Windows NT 4.0 and earlier. Net Logon for Windows Server 2003 does not manage replication between servers running Windows Server 2003.
