To connect and bind to an ADAM instance using ADAM ADSI Edit

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to ADAM, and then click ADAM ADSI Edit.

  2. In the console tree, click ADAM ADSI Edit.

  3. On the Action menu, click Connect to.

  4. In Connection name, type a name for this connection.

  5. In Server name, type the DNS name, network basic input/output system (NetBIOS) name, or Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer on which the ADAM instance is running.

  6. In Port, type the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) communication port in use by the ADAM instance to which you want to connect.

  7. Under Connect to the following node, do one of the following:

    • Click Distinguished name (DN) or naming context, and then specify the distinguished name to which you want to connect.

    • Click Well-known naming context, and then click Configuration, RootDSE, or Schema.

  8. Under Connect using these credentials, do one of the following:

    • Click The account of the currently logged on user.

    • Click This account, and then specify the user name and password of the account with which you want to connect.

Notes

  • To create additional connections to ADAM instances, on the Action menu, click Connect to for each new connection.

  • When you run ADAM on computers running Windows XP Professional, you cannot set or modify the password for any principal in ADAM using ADAM ADSI Edit.

  • The default communication port for LDAP is 389.

  • ADAM ADSI Edit does not support Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections to ADAM.

  • To connect to an ADAM instance running on the local computer, type localhost as the server name.
