Determining Storage Specifications

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

It is important to make sure that file servers have adequate, fault-tolerant storage. When determining storage specifications, perform the following tasks:

  1. Estimate the amount of data to be stored.

  2. Plan the amount of storage for each server configuration.

  3. Determine the maximum volume size.

  4. Plan the layout and RAID level of volumes.

The following sections describe each of these steps.
