Description: The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is a secure interprocess communication (IPC) mechanism that enables data exchange and invocation of functionality that resides in a different process. That different process can be on the same computer, on the LAN, or across the Internet. The Remote Procedure Call service serves as the RPC endpoint mapper and Service Control Manager (SCM). Many services depend on the Remote Procedure Call service to start successfully.
For more information about RPC, see the Internetworking Guide of the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit (or see the Internetworking Guide on the Web at http://www.microsoft.com/reskit).
This service should not be stopped or disabled. Disabling the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service will result in the operating system not loading.
