Group Policy Software Installation Extension Technical Reference

Updated: March 28, 2003

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

By using the Group Policy Software installation extension of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, an administrator can centrally deploy, install, and manage applications throughout an organization. From a central location, the administrator can also perform routine maintenance tasks such as upgrading, patching, and removing applications without going to individual workstations, which gives users reliable access to the applications that they need to perform their jobs, no matter which computer they are using.

The Group Policy Software installation extension relies on both the Active Directory directory service included with Windows Server 2003 and Group Policy.
