Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_SZ |
Time format |
M/d/yy |
Specifies the format used to display dates in short date (numeric) format, for example 6/5/69.
To change the value of this entry, in Control Panel double-click Regional and Language Options. On the Regional Options tab, click the Customize button. Click the Date tab, and then select a format from the Short date format list. Click OK.
Changes made in Regional and Language Options are effective immediately.
Notes
You can also create your own date format if you use the correct values. (For more information about these values, see Day, Month, Year, and Time Format.) Click in the Short date format box, rather than clicking on the arrow to the right of the box, and replace or insert the necessary characters.
Regional and Language Options in Control Panel links the sDate and sShortDate entries. This ensures the date separator and the date format are synchronized. For example,
sDate | sShortDate | Meaning |
---|---|---|
/ |
m/d/yy |
6/5/69 |
Setting sDate and sShortDate independently in the registry can result in conflicting values. To repair these settings, use Regional Options in Control Panel.
Setting only one value in the registry might not change the date as it appears in applications, because an application can read either sDate or sShortDate.
