Description: The Terminal Services Session Directory service provides a multisession environment that allows client devices to access a virtual Windows desktop session and Windows-based programs running on a Windows Server 2003–based computer.
The Terminal Services Session Directory allows clusters of load-balanced terminal servers (servers that have Terminal Server enabled) to properly route a user’s connection request to the server where the user already has a session running. Users are routed to the first-available terminal server, regardless of whether they have a running session elsewhere in the cluster. Load balancing pools the processing resources of several servers by using the TCP/IP networking protocol. You can use this service with a cluster of terminal servers to scale the performance of a single terminal server by distributing sessions across multiple servers. Session Directory keeps track of disconnected sessions on the cluster, and ensures that users are reconnected to those sessions.
If this service is stopped or disabled, load balancing for Terminal Services does not work.
Connection requests are routed to the first available server. Users are routed to the first-available terminal server, regardless of whether they have a running session elsewhere in the cluster.
