Program Groups Subkey

Updated: March 28, 2003

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

HKLM\SOFTWARE

Description

The Program Groups subkey remains in the registry. However, Windows Server 2003 does not include Program Manager, the component that used this subkey.

In Windows NT 4.0 and earlier, the Program Groups subkey stored the contents of program groups the user defined in Program Manager. In Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003, these Program Groups appear as shortcuts in subfolders of the Start menu.

Note

  • If a user or program attempts to start Program Manager, Windows Server 2003 starts Windows Explorer instead.
