Setting an Application Isolation Mode

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 with SP1

After configuring the IIS application server role and enabling dynamic content, configure the application isolation mode for the server. IIS 6.0 can run in one of two application isolation modes: worker process isolation mode, which is the default mode for IIS 6.0, or IIS 5.0 isolation mode. To configure IIS 6.0 to run in a specific application isolation mode, use either IIS Manager or the Adsutil.vbs administrative utility.

If you are configuring IIS to run in IIS 5.0 isolation mode, after setting the application isolation mode, you must perform the additional task of setting the level of isolation for each application hosted on the server.

For information about choosing the appropriate application isolation mode for your environment, see Choosing an Application Isolation Mode. For more information about configuring the application mode for a server, see Configuring Isolation Modes.
