Enable or disable sound notification when an infrared device is nearby

To enable or disable sound notification when an infrared device is nearby

  1. Open Wireless Link in Control Panel.

  2. On the Infrared tab, do one of the following:

    • To enable sound notification when an infrared device is nearby, select the Play sound when Infrared device is nearby check box. This check box is selected by default.

    • To disable sound notification when an infrared device is nearby, clear the Play sound when Infrared device is nearby check box.

Notes

  • Performing this task does not require you to have administrative credentials. Therefore, as a security best practice, consider performing this task as a user without administrative credentials.

  • To open a Control Panel item, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriate icon.

  • In the Windows ServerĀ 2003 family, only Windows ServerĀ 2003, Standard Edition, supports infrared networking.

  • The Wireless Link icon appears in Control Panel only if an infrared device is already installed on your computer.

  • If the Play sound when infrared device is nearby check box is selected, but you do not hear the notification sound, make sure that your infrared devices are correctly aligned and that an infrared link is established. For more information, see Related Topics.
