Change the cost for a routing link

To change the cost for a routing link

Open Active Directory Sites and Services.
On the View menu, click Show Services Node.
In the console tree, click MsmqServices.

In the details pane, right-click the applicable routing link, and then click Properties.
On the General page, in Routing Link Cost, specify a new cost.

To open Active Directory Sites and Services, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Sites and Services.
A routing link defines the route for connectivity between two sites. For more information on routing links, how they are used to route messages, and routing-link costs, see Related Topics.
All routing links are assigned a default cost of 1. Change routing-link costs only in the case where alternative routes are possible and you want to enforce one route over another route using link costs. In that case, you can assign costs that reflect the differences in the communications costs.
Costs can range from 1 to 999999.
By default, only users in the Enterprise Admins group can create or modify routing links if there are multiple domains in your organization. For users in the Domain Admins group to be able to create or modify routing links, they will need to be granted the Create All Child Objects permission for the MsmqServices object.
