Refreshing maps

To refresh user data from the Windows interface

  1. Open Microsoft Services for Network File System: click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Microsoft Services for Network File System.

  2. If necessary, connect to the computer you want to manage.

  3. Right-click User Name Mapping and select Properties.

  4. In Days, Hours, and Minutes, type the refresh interval. The minimum interval is five minutes.

  5. To refresh the user data now, click Synchronize Now.

  6. To save the settings, click Apply.

To refresh user data from the command line

  1. Open the command prompt.

  2. At the command prompt, type:

    mapadmin [ComputerName] [–uUser**] [–pPassword] config –r [[days:]hh:]**mm

    Argument Description

    ComputerName

    The name of the computer you want to manage.

    User

    The name of the user who has administrative privileges on the computer, if different from the current user.

    Password

    The password for the person who has administrative privileges on the computer, if different from the current user.

    days:hh:mm

    The refresh interval for updating from the Windows and Network Information Service (NIS) databases in days, hours, and minutes. The minimum interval is five minutes.

    Note

    There is no command-line method for immediately refreshing maps. To view the complete syntax for this command, at a command prompt, type: mapadmin /?
