Description: The Telephony service provides Telephony API (TAPI) support. Clients use the Telephony service to run programs that control telephony devices and IP-based voice connections on your computer and throughout the network. The Telephony service enables applications to act as clients to telephony equipment such as PBXs, telephones, and modems. Telephony supports the TAPI by which different wire protocols that communicate with telephony equipment can be supported. These protocols are implemented in Telephony service providers (TSPs).
If this service is stopped or disabled, any services that explicitly depend on this service, such as modem support, fail to start.
The Telephony service cannot be stopped if there is another dependent service, such as RAS, currently active. If there are no other dependent services running and you stop the Telephony service, it will be restarted when any application makes an initialization call to the TAPI interface.
