Determining Hardware Requirements

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

The first step in designing a remote access solution is to determine hardware requirements. Determine the capacity required for your dial-up or VPN servers, as well as additional hardware required, such as modem banks for a dial-up solution. When selecting server hardware, consider central processing unit (CPU), RAM, and network hardware requirements. For optimal performance, run lab tests on each model of equipment to be used in your production environment.
