Checklist: Configuring Encrypting File System in a server cluster

Using Encrypting File System (EFS) on a server cluster requires several tasks to be performed before EFS files can be safely encrypted and decrypted on the server cluster.

Configure the computer accounts for the server cluster to be trusted for delegation

Important

  • All cluster node computer accounts, as well as the virtual server computer account, must be trusted for delegation.

Allow a computer to be trusted for delegation

 

Configure users of this cluster for roaming user profiles to ensure the private keys of the users are available to each node of the server cluster

Create a roaming user profile

 

Create a file share for storage of encrypted files

Create a cluster-managed file share

 

Configure the cluster to support Kerberos authentication

Enable Kerberos authentication for virtual servers

 

Create or copy files on the cluster server file share

 
 

Encrypt files on the cluster server file share

Encrypt a file or folder
