Description

Specifies when Windows File Protection scans protected files for changes. By default, it scans protected files only during setup.

Value Meaning

0

Windows File Protection scans files only during setup.

1

Windows File Protection scans files at setup and each time you start Windows Server 2003. This setting delays each startup.

2

Windows File Protection scans files the next time you start the system.

Change Method

To change the value of this entry, use System File Checker (SFC.exe), a tool included in Windows Server 2003.

Note

  • This entry affects file scanning only. It does not affect the standard background file change detection that Windows File Protection provides.

  • This entry can be superceded by a Group Policy setting included in Windows Server 2003. While the Set Windows File Protection scanning policy setting is enabled, the system ignores this entry. The configuration of the Set Windows File Protection scanning policy setting is stored in the value of Sfcscan in the Policies subkey. If Windows File Protection or System File Checker does not operate as expected, check to see whether a policy setting is in effect.

  • Windows File Protection only scans when the current user is an administrator of the computer.
