HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters

Data type Range Default value

REG_DWORD

0x400 - 0xFFFFFFFF

(sized dynamically)

Description

Stores the maximum size of a packet that transports replication data between sites that are not directory partitions. The default value is sized dynamically, based on the amount of memory. This value is sent on a replication request to the source computer. The source computer uses the value it receives in the replication request or its own setting for this value, whichever is smaller.

For replication between sites that are not directory partitions, Active Directory uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). This replication is asynchronous.

This entry does not exist in the registry by default. You can add it by using the registry editor Regedit.exe.

Notes

  • If the value of this entry is not set, then the system limits the packet size to 1/100th of the size of RAM, with a minimum of 17nbsp;MB and a maximum of 10 MB.

  • For the system to function correctly, the value of this entry must be at least 0x400 (1 MB), and it must not be unreasonably high.
