Excluding files and folders from replication

Sometimes you may not want to replicate every file or subfolder contained within a DFS root or DFS link. For example, if a shared folder used as a target contains several temporary files created by applications for caching or record-keeping purposes, you might not want to replicate those files to all of the targets that participate in replication.

For each root and link, you can use the File Replication service to specify files and subfolders to exclude from replication. The exclusion rules apply to every target or root target designated as belonging to the selected root or link, and also apply to subfolders beneath the shared folders themselves.

You can use * and ? as wildcard characters when entering file or folder names. For example, *.tmp matches all files with the .tmp extension.
