Symbol or character

, (comma)

Description

Specifies the symbol used to group the digits in a whole number.

For example, if the value of this entry is a comma, and the value of sGrouping is 3;0, then the system displays the number 3000 as 3,000.

Change Method

To change the value of this entry, in Control Panel double-click Regional and Language Options. On the Regional Options tab, click the Customize button. On the Numbers tab, select a symbol from the Digit grouping symbol list. Click OK.

Activation Method

Changes made in Regional and Language Options are effective immediately.

Note

  • Regional and Language Options in Control Panel restricts this entry from accepting the numeric digits 0–9. Using the registry editor Regedit.exe to set this value to a numeric digit could have one of two effects:

    • If an application calls the GetNumberFormat API, then the system will use the default symbol for the locale.

    • If an application does not use the GetNumberFormat API and the application does not check the format itself, then the numeric value will be used. This could cause errors if the value is used in calculations.
