Migrating File Server Data

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

If you plan to consolidate file servers or replace outdated servers with new servers, migrate existing applications and data to the new servers. To ensure the success of the migration, create a detailed and well-tested migration plan that does the following:

  • Minimizes the amount of time that data is unavailable to users

  • Minimizes the impact on network bandwidth

  • Minimizes the cost of the migration

  • Ensures that no data loss occurs during the migration
