Troubleshooting (Server Clusters: Rolling Upgrades. Upgrading to Windows Server 2003)

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

Resource does not support rolling upgrades.

Follow the instructions in step 2 above.

Resource does not come online after an upgrade of one node.

There are a few reasons for a resource to fail to come online or fail after it was brought online on the up-level node.

  1. The resource doesn't support rolling upgrades.

Move the resource back to the down-level node and take it offline. You will not be able to bring it online until all nodes are upgraded

  2. The resource is not compatible with Windows Server 2003.

  3. Another resource that your application depends on failed to come online.

Make sure that the other resource does not fall into categories 1 or 2 above.

Node upgrade fails.

When a node upgrade fails, you have the following options:

  1. Repair the node.

  2. Restore the node from a backup.

  3. Perform a clean install of the node. In this case, you will have to evict the node from the cluster, and rejoin the cluster once the installation is complete. This process may affect other applications running on the cluster. You may need to reinstall these applications. Please refer to Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition or Datacenter Edition online help section on installing server cluster.
