Updated: April 17, 2012

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

Imports file groups from a file.

noteNote
To use this command, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group.

For examples of how to use this command, see Examples.

filescrn filegroup import /file:<Path> [/filegroup:<FgName> | /ignore] [/remote:<ComputerName>]

Parameter Description

/file:<Path>

Imports file groups from the XML file at path Path.

/filegroup:<FgName>

Imports only the file group FgName. If the group name contains a space, enclose the name in quotation marks. If the parameter is not specified, by default all file groups in the file are imported.

/ignore

Ignores (does not overwrite) identically named file groups that already exist on the computer.

/remote:<ComputerName>

Performs the operation on the remote computer ComputerName.

  • You can create the XML file used for importing file groups by using the Filescrn filegroup export command.

  • The shortest sequence of characters that uniquely identifies a parameter can be used as an abbreviation. For example, the following two commands are equivalent:

    filescrn f i /f:d:\filegroups.xml
    filescrn filegroup import /file:d:\filegroups.xml

  • To perform operations on a remote computer by using the /remote:ComputerName parameter:

    • You must be logged on with a domain account that is a member of the Administrators group on both the local computer and the remote computer.

    • The remote computer must be running Windows Server 2008, and File Server Resource Manager must be installed.

    • The Remote File Server Resource Manager Management exception on the remote computer must be enabled. You enable this exception by using Windows Firewall in Control Panel.

    noteNote
When you import file groups on a remote computer by using the /remote: parameter, the XML file specified by the /file: parameter must be located on the local computer.

  • To import file groups on the remote computer FILESERVER1, using the file D:\filegroups.xml located on the local computer, type:

    filescrn filegroup import /file:d:\filegroups.xml /remote:fileserver1
