target computer

The computer that will be distributed to customers on which you install Windows. You can either run Windows Setup on the destination computer or copy a master installation onto a destination computer.

task

A single unit of work within a prescribed sequence of actions, taken to complete a job or function.

TCG

The organization that sets standards for Trusted Platform Module (TPM) use and interface.

terminal server

The physical server running Terminal Services; a computer on which the Terminal Server role service is installed. Users can connect to a terminal server from their own computing devices to run programs and to use network resources on that server.

terminal server farm

A group of computers, known as nodes, or terminal servers working together as a single system to ensure that mission-critical applications and resources remain available to clients.

Terminal Services

A server role that provides multi-user access to applications and desktops for non-admin purposes; provides technologies that enable users to access Windows-based programs that are installed on a terminal server, or to access the Windows desktop itself, from almost any computing device.

Terminal Services client access license

A license that is required for a user or a device to connect to a terminal server.

Terminal Services Configuration

A Terminal Services management snap-in that you can use to configure settings for new connections, modify the settings of existing connections, and delete connections. You can configure settings on a per-connection basis or for the server as a whole.

Terminal Services connection authorization policy

A policy that allows the administrator to specify who can connect to a TS Gateway server. Administrators can also specify requirements that users must meet to connect to a TS Gateway server. Administrators can configure Terminal Services connection authorization policies (TS CAPs) by using the Add Roles Wizard during the installation of the TS Gateway role service, or by using TS Gateway Manager after installation.

Terminal Services Easy Print

A printer driver in Terminal Services that simplifies the administration overhead to enable printing to supported clients. It enables users to reliably print from a RemoteApp program or from a terminal server desktop session to the correct printer on their client computer. It also enables users to have a much more consistent printing experience between local and remote sessions.

Terminal Services Gateway

A role service that enables authorized remote users to connect to resources on an internal corporate or private network, from any Internet-connected device. TS Gateway uses Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) over Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTPS) to help form a secure, encrypted connection between remote users on the Internet and the remote computers on which their productivity applications run.

Terminal Services license server

A computer on which the TS Licensing role service is installed. A license server issues Terminal Services client access licenses (TS CALs) to users or devices that connect to a terminal server.

Terminal Services Licensing

A Terminal Services role service that manages the Terminal Services client access licenses (TS CALs). TS Licensing installs, issues, and monitors the availability of TS CALs on a Terminal Services license server by using TS Licensing Manager.

Terminal Services licensing mode

A mode that determines the type of Terminal Services client access licenses (TS CALs) that a terminal server will request from a license server on behalf of a client that is connecting to the terminal server.

Terminal Services Manager

A Terminal Services management snap-in that is used to view information about and monitor users, sessions, processes, and devices on terminal servers that reside in trusted domains. You can also use Terminal Services Manager to perform certain administrative tasks; for example, you can disconnect or log off users from their Terminal Services sessions.

Terminal Services Per Device client access license

One of the two types of Terminal Services client access licenses (TS CALs) that permits one device (used by any user) to connect to a terminal server.

Terminal Services Per User client access license

One of the two types of Terminal Services client access licenses (TS CALs) that permits one user to access terminal servers from an unlimited number of client computers or devices.

Terminal Services RemoteApp

A feature in Windows Server 2008 that enables the user to access a program remotely through Terminal Services but have it appear as if it is running on the user's local computer. Users can run RemoteApp programs side-by-side with their local programs.

Terminal Services resource authorization policy

A policy that allows an administrator to specify the network resources that users can connect to through a TS Gateway server. Administrators can configure Terminal Services resource authorization policies (TS RAPs) by using the Add Roles Wizard during installation of the TS Gateway role service, or by using TS Gateway Manager after installation.

Terminal Services Session Broker

A Terminal Services role service in Windows Server 2008 that enables a user to load balance sessions in a terminal server farm. Additionally, TS Session Broker enables a user to reconnect to an existing session in a load-balanced terminal server farm.

Terminal Services Web Access

A Terminal Services role service that makes RemoteApp programs and a connection to the terminal server's desktop accessible to users from a Web browser.

token-signing certificate

An X509 certificate whose associated public/private key pair is used by federation servers to digitally sign all security tokens that they produce.

TPM

Security hardware that provides a hardware-based root of trust and can be leveraged to provide a variety of cryptographic services, such as early-boot component checking.

troubleshooting

An administrative activity that isolates the source of a problem and provides a solution.

trust relationship

A logical relationship established between domains to allow pass-through authentication, in which a trusting domain honors the logon authentications of a trusted domain.

Trusted Computing Group

The organization that sets standards for Trusted Platform Module (TPM) use and interface.

Trusted Platform Module

Security hardware that provides a hardware-based root of trust and can be leveraged to provide a variety of cryptographic services, such as early-boot component checking.

TS CAL

A license that is required for a user or a device to connect to a terminal server.

TS Gateway

TS Gateway Manager

A Microsoft Management Console (MMC) console on a TS Gateway server that administrators can use to configure Terminal Services connection authorization policies (TS CAPs), Terminal Services resource authorization policies (TS RAPs), and computer groups associated with TS RAPs. TS Gateway Manager also provides tools to help monitor TS Gateway connection status, health, and events.

TS Gateway server

A server on which the Terminal Services Gateway role service is installed. Users connect to network resources on an internal corporate or private network through a TS Gateway server.

TS Gateway server farm

A group of TS Gateway servers that have been configured to function correctly using a load balancing solution that is in place.

TS Gateway-managed computer group

A list of network resources (computers) on an internal corporate or private network that users can access through a TS Gateway server. You can configure TS Gateway-managed computer groups by using TS Gateway Manager after installation of the TS Gateway role service.

TS Licensing Manager

Terminal Services management tool for installing, issuing, and monitoring Terminal Services client access licenses (TS CALs) on a Terminal Services license server.
