Certificate Installation Methods

Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile requires that the root certificate, that is part of the server certificate, be installed on the mobile device. If your organization uses a public certification authority (CA), it is possible that the root certificate is already installed on your user’s mobile devices. If your organization assigns its own certificate, see Understanding Self-Signed Certificates Requirements for guidance on installing self-signed certificates.

By default, Windows Mobile-powered devices are shipped with a variety of certificates:

  • Trusted root certificates from major certificate vendors that can be used for authentication purposes
  • Mobile2Market and other trusted certificates that designate applications that are signed for use on Windows Mobile devices.
  • Additional certificates that may be added by the OEM or network carrier

This link lists the certificates shipped with Windows Mobile 6 powered devices at the time of this publication.
