Configuring Communicator Web Access Server (2007 R2 Beta)

Communicator Mobile for Java leverages the features in Communicator Web Access Server. The following tasks need to be done on the Communicator Web Access server prior to installing the Communicator Mobile for Java software on the mobile device.

Copy Client

During installation of the Communicator Web Access server, the directory path “%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2\Communicator Web Access\Server\mobile\Resources" is created. Communicator Mobile for Java client software is provided for the following network carriers:

  • AT&T
  • Vodafone
  • Orange
  • Airtel
  • Telefonica
  • Telecom Italia
  • Other

Depending on your network carrier selection, select the appropriate files and copy them to “%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2\Communicator Web Access\Server\mobile\Resources on the Communicator Web Access Server.

Once copied, the network carrier’s name will be available for selection in the Client download page, which by default is set to https://im.contoso.com/mobile

Policy Parameter Change

Communicator Mobile for Java includes a Voice Mail Indicator feature that provides the number of unread voice mails for the user. For this feature to work, the following policy settings must be implemented:

  • Locate the file “aspnet.config”
  • Using Notepad, or a text editor, change the value of “legacyImpersonationPolicy” parameter to False (from True)

Publish Download URL location to users

Users installing Communicator Mobile for Java will need to know the location of the client installation files. The default URL created during installation of the Communicator Web Access Server is https://im.contoso.com/mobile. Please update this location with your Communicator Web Access Server server name and distribute this to your users.
