Step 2. Determine the Components Required for Group Chat (2007 R2 Beta)

[This is preliminary documentation and is subject to change. Blank topics are included as placeholders.]

Each server that will host Group Chat server must already contain an instance of Microsoft Office Communicator that includes the following components.

Office Communicator Component Description

Office Communicator Front End Server

Enables communication between the Group Chat Console and the Group Chat server components. Before you begin to deploy Group Chat, verify the deployment of Office Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition, or an Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition pool, as well as other internal Office Communications Server 2007 servers, as appropriate to your organization. For details about planning and deploying Office Communications Server 2007, see the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Planning Guide, the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition Deployment Guide, and the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition Deployment Guide available from the Office Communications Server Web site.

At least one global catalog server in the forest root

All other Active Directory infrastructure requirements are the same as for Office Communications Server 2007.

Office Communication Server 2007 edge servers

Required to enable communication with federated partners and other users who are not on the internal network. If your organization wants internal users to be able to include users outside of the internal network to participate in group chat sessions, verify that the appropriate edge servers are deployed in the perimeter network. At a minimum, this includes the following server roles:

  • Access Edge Server
  • Web Conferencing Edge Server

For details about planning and deploying edge servers in the perimeter network, see the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Planning Guide and the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Edge Server Deployment Guide.

Office Communications Server has infrastructure prerequisites, including the Active Directory infrastructure prerequisites that must be met before you deploy Office Communications Server. For details about those infrastructure requirements, see the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Planning Guide available from the Office Communications Server Web site.
