Add a New Domain to a Zone

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can use this procedure to extend the namespace of a zone by adding a subdomain to the zone without delegating authority for the subdomain to another Domain Name System (DNS) server.

Membership in Administrators, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at Local and Domain Default Groups (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477).

To add a new domain to a zone

  1. Open DNS Manager. To open DNS Manager, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click DNS.

  2. In the console tree, right-click the zone or domain to which you want to add the domain.

  3. Click New Domain, and then type the name of the new domain without using periods.
