Set the Cost On a Site Link Object

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

The cost of a site link represents the relative cost of using the site link for replication. The higher the cost of a site link, the lower the preference in Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) for using the site link for replication.

Membership in Administrators, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at Local and Domain Default Groups (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477).

  1. Open Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) Edit and connect and bind to the configuration directory partition of an AD LDS instance in the configuration set in which the site link object that you want to modify resides. For more information, see Manage an AD LDS Instance Using ADSI Edit.

  2. In the console tree, double-click the configuration directory partition, double-click the sites container (CN=Sites), and then double-click the Inter-Site Transports container (CN=Inter-Site Transports).

  3. In the console tree, click the IP container (CN=IP).

  4. In the details pane, right-click the site link for which you want to set the cost, and then click Properties.

  5. In the Properties dialog box, in Attributes, click cost, and then click Edit.

  6. In Value, type a cost for the site link.

Note

The default cost for a site link is 100.
