In this article:
Internet Protocol supported environments
User scenarios
Office 2013 applications that run on Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 support the following environments:
Pure Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4)
Mixed IPv4 and IPv6
Pure IPv6
In a Windows environment, “mixed” can be defined as one of the following likely scenarios (but there might be other scenarios):
Both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols are running in your environment.
Some client computers are using IPv4 and some are using IPv6.
Client computers are using IPv4. However, the computer that is running SQL Server 2005 is using IPv6.
In addition, user interfaces (UIs) for Office 2013 applications support display of both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
Office 2013 applications support IPv6 addressing to match support in Windows operating systems. In IPv6 environments and in IPv4 or mixed IP environments, users can browse network locations; open, save, publish, and insert objects, pictures, and files; open data sources; access shared workspaces; get document updates from network paths; and other tasks that use any of the following:
Universal naming convention (UNC)
Server name, where Domain Name System (DNS) uses an IPv6 address (for example, \\server\share)
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Sockets Layer (HTTPS)
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Literal address
