Step 3. Identify the Technical Requirements for Deploying Group Chat (2007 R2 Beta)

[This is preliminary documentation and is subject to change. Blank topics are included as placeholders.]

The server platform for Group Chat Servers requires the same hardware as the Office Communications Server 2007 Front End Servers. For more information, see the Server Platform Requirements in the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Planning Guide, which is available from the Office Communications Server Web site.

Group Chat Server Requirements

On each server on which Group Chat is to be installed, install Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 (SP2).

After installing the operating system, install the following software on each of the servers.

Software Description

Windows Server 2003 Application Server Components

After installing Windows Server 2003, install the following Windows components (from Application Server options in the Windows Components wizard):

  • Internet Information Services (IIS). Hosts the Web Service for the purpose of posting files to chat rooms.
  • ASP.NET 2.0. Web application that is part of the .NET Framework and is used to build dynamic Web sites, Web applications, and XML Web services.
  • Message Queuing. Receives information from IIS and any Channel Servers in the system. This information is archived by the Compliance Server, if deployed.

Microsoft Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 3.0

An add-on to the .NET Framework that implement additional Web service specifications in areas including security, reliable messaging, and sending attachments. WSE is only required on the Chat Server, not the Compliance Server. WSE is available from Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 3.0 for Microsoft .NET at https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=018A09FD-3A74-43C5-8EC1-8D789091255D&displaylang=en.

When the .NET Framework is installed on a computer with an existing .NET Framework installation, most Microsoft ASP.NET applications update to use the newly installed version. The exception is an application bound to a version of the .NET Framework that is either an incompatible version or a later version. If it cannot successfully run on a later version, configure the ASP.NET application to use an earlier version. For details, see https://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/k6h9cz8h.aspx.

Group Chat also requires three components that are automatically installed when you install Group Chat, if they are not already installed on the computer. These components include the following.

Component Description

Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.0

Manages the execution of the program. During the installation of Group Chat, if this version or a later version of the software is not already installed on the computer, Group Chat installs it.

Visual C ++ 2008 Redistributable Runtime version 9.0.2102

The libraries required to run applications developed with the Microsoft Visual C++® development system on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2008 installed. During the installation of Group Chat, if this version or a later version of the software is not already installed on the computer, Group Chat installs it.

Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA) v2.0 Redist 3.5.6774.0

Used in the creation of SIP clients and SIP servers. During the installation of Group Chat, if this version or a later version of the software is not already installed on the computer, Group Chat installs it.

Group Chat Database Requirements

Databases for Group Chat include the group chat database used to store chat history, configuration, and user provisioning data and, if you are supporting compliance and deploying it on a separate database than the group chat database, the compliance database. To prepare a database server platform, ensure that each computer meets the hardware requirements and then install the prerequisite software.

The server platform for Group Chat database servers requires the same hardware as the Office Communications Server 2007 back-end database server. For details, see the Server Platform Requirements in the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Planning Guide, which is available from the Office Communications Server Web site.

On the database server, ensure that the following software is installed:

  • Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later.
  • SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (SP2). For details about installing SQL Server 2005, see Installing SQL Server 2005
