It is recommended that the Disk Defragmenter tool be a part of a frequent and regular maintenance program to maintain the optimum performance of NTFS volumes. Unlike FAT volumes, which can be fully defragmented on an infrequent basis, NTFS volumes derive only limited benefit from occasional file defragmentation. Only with regular use of this tool does NTFS gain the full benefit of file defragmentation.
