Description

Prevents users from connecting to the Windows Update Web site.

If the value of this entry is 1, users cannot connect from Windows 2000 to the Windows Update Web site. Also, this policy removes the Windows Update hyperlink from the Start Menu and from the Tools menu in Internet Explorer.

This entry stores the setting of the Disable and remove links to Windows Update Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes this entry from the registry, and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Disable and remove links to Windows Update Group Policy (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Start Menu & Taskbar).

Note Image Note

If this policy is enabled, users who try to connect to the Windows Update Web site are redirected to an alternate page. To see the alternate page, enable the policy, and then go to the Windows Update link at https://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/reskit/webresources .
