Zones

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DNS

Description

The Zones subkey stores information about the authoritative zones of a Domain Name System (DNS) server. It contains subkeys, called Zone-name , that represent each of the authoritative zones on the server. The Zone-name subkeys store configuration data that is separately set for each authoritative zone.

If the DNS server does not contain the root zone, the Zones subkey also contains a subkey named "." (period), which stores configuration data for the cache file, also known as the root hint file.
