Using Reports in VMM

Use the following procedures to view, print, and export a report in Reporting view of the VMM Administrator Console and to work with VMM reports in the Operations Console of System Center Operations Manager 2007.
Prerequisites
To view and use reports in VMM, the following prerequisites must be met:
Reporting view is displayed only after you deploy System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1 or System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2, set up your reporting server, and enable reporting in Virtual Machine Manager. The reports are provided through the System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 Management Pack or, for VMM 2008, through the System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 Management Pack. The management pack is imported into Operations Manager 2007 as part of Operations Manager integration with VMM. If you have upgraded to VMM 2008 R2 from VMM 2008, and you have already integrated Operations Manager 2007 with VMM 2008, you must update your Operations Manager integration for VMM 2008 R2; the integration update includes updating to the VMM 2008 R2 Management Pack. To view and open reports in Virtual Machine Manager, you must be added to the Report Operator role in Operations Manager. Ask your Operations Manager administrator to set this up.
Tip
As a Report Operator, you can order, schedule, and design reports in the Operations Console on your Operations Manager server. If you add your own reports to the folder that stores the virtualization reports, the reports are available in Reporting view in the VMM Administrator Console also.
To work with reports in Reporting view of the VMM Administrator Console
In the VMM Administrator Console, in Reporting view, in the navigation pane, click Reports. It might take a few seconds for the reports to display in the results pane.
Click the report that you want to open, and then, in the Actions pane, click Open report.
In the report dialog box, enter report parameters specific to the report. For example, for the Host Utilization Report, enter a Start Date and End Date and specify which hosts to report on.
To select a specific virtual machine host for the report, you must enter a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) that will resolve on the Operations Manager server in the Host field. For example, for the host Host01 in the parent domain contoso.com, the FQDN is host01.contoso.com.
To display the report, click View Report.
To view a description of the report, expand Description at the top of the report. A summary of the parameters that you used to produce the report is displayed beneath the description. If you want to hide the parameters, click the View or Hide Parameter Area button on the toolbar.
To view a multipage report:
Use the arrow buttons on the toolbar to move backward and forward through the pages of the report.
To move to a specific page, type the page number in the text box between the arrow buttons, and then press ENTER.
To search for text in the report, type the text in the Find box, and then click Find.
To update the data in the report, click the Refresh button on the toolbar. Operations Manager updates its data warehouse every hour. By using the Refresh button, you can update the data in an open report without running the report again.
To print the report:
To view the print layout for the report, click the Print Layout button on the toolbar.
To change the print layout, click the Page Setup button.
To print the report, click the Print button.
To export the report to a file:
Click the Export button on the toolbar.
Select the format in which you want to save the report: XML, CSV (Comma -Separated Values), TIFF (graphic), Acrobat (PDF), Web archive, or Excel.
To work with VMM reports in Operations Manager
Log on to your Operations Manager server.
On the Start menu, click All Programs, click System Center Operations Manager 2007, and then click Operations Console.
To display the reports for Virtual Machine Manager, in the navigation pane of the Operations Console, click Microsoft Virtualization Reports.
In the results pane, select a report.
In the Actions pane, click Open to open the report, or click Schedule to schedule a periodic report.
