Description

Determines whether the Getting Started with Windows 2000 welcome screen automatically appears in Windows 2000 Professional each time a user logs on.

This entry stores the setting of the Don't display welcome screen at logon Group Policy in the User Configuration folder. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes this entry from the registry, and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value

Meaning

0 (or not in the registry)

The policy is disabled or not configured. The welcome screen automatically appears in Windows 2000 Professional each time a user logs on.

1

The policy is enabled. The welcome screen does not automatically appear when a user logs on, although the user can display the screen on demand.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Don't display welcome screen at logon Group Policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System).

To suppress the welcome screen without setting a policy, clear the Show this screen at startup check box on the welcome screen.

Note Image Note

This entry takes precedence over a user setting. If the Don't display welcome screen at logon policy is enabled (the value of this entry is 1), the system ignores both the setting of the Show this screen at startup check box on the welcome screen and the value of the Show entry, which stores the check box setting.

This entry applies only to Windows 2000 Professional. It does not affect the Configure Your Server on Windows 2000 Server welcome screen on Windows 2000 Server.

This entry can appear in both the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and the HKEY_CURRENT_USER subtrees. If the entry appears in both places, the value of the entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE takes precedence over the value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

Tip Image Tip

To display the welcome screen, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Getting Started.
