Description

Directs the system to wait for the remote copy of the roaming user profile to load, even when it is loading slowly. Also, the system waits for the remote copy when the user is notified about a slow connection but does not respond in the time allowed.

This entry stores the setting of the Wait for remote user profile Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not Configured, Group Policy deletes this entry from the registry and the system behaves as though it were set to 0.

Value

Meaning

0

The policy is disabled or not configured. When a remote profile is slow to load, the system loads the local copy of the roaming user profile. The local copy is also used when the user is notified (as set in the SlowLinkUIEnabled entry) but does not respond in the time allowed (as set in ProfileDlgTimeOut ).

1

The policy is enabled. The system waits for the remote copy of the user profile to load.

This entry together with the related entries listed here define the system's response when roaming user profiles are slow to load.

Waiting for the remote profile is appropriate when users move between computers frequently and the local copy of their profile is not always current. Using the local copy is desirable when logging on quickly is a priority.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Wait for remote user profile Group Policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon).

Note Image Note

This entry takes precedence over a user setting. When this entry appears in the registry, a policy is in effect and the system ignores the value of the SlowLinkProfileDefault entry in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. If remote user profiles do not operate as expected, check to see if this entry is in the registry.

If the value of SlowLinkDetectEnabled is 1, this entry is ignored. Also, if the value of DeleteRoamingCache is 1, there is no local copy of the roaming profile to load when the system detects a slow connection.
