Add the Apply Updates Task to a Node Template

Updated: January 13, 2009

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008

The node template for the nodes you need to update must have the Apply Updates maintenance task. You can view the node template in the Node Template Editor to verify or modify the settings for the existing Apply Updates task, or to add the task to the node template.

For information about using HPC Cluster Manager, see Overview of HPC Cluster Manager.

To add the Apply Updates task to a node template
  1. In Configuration, in the Navigation Pane, click Node templates.

  2. Double-click the node template that is assigned to the compute nodes that you want to update.

  3. In the Node Template Editor dialog box, click Add Task, point to Maintenance, and then click Apply Updates.

If Apply Updates is not available, the node template already has this task listed. You can review the current task properties, and make changes if necessary.

  4. In the list of Node template tasks, select the Apply Updates task.

  5. In the Apply Updates Properties pane, under Required, select the category of software updates that you want applied to the compute nodes (None, Critical, or All).

  6. Optionally, you can list specific software updates to apply to the compute nodes:

    1. Select the optional Updates parameter, and then click the ellipsis () to open the Software Update dialog box.

    2. Type update names for the specific software updates that need to be applied, then click OK to return to the Node Template Editor dialog box.

  7. Click Save.

noteNote
To apply the updates specified in the node template, use the Maintain node action to run the update task. For more information, see Run Maintenance Tasks on Compute Nodes.

Additional considerations

  • To open HPC Cluster Manager, click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft HPC Pack, and then click HPC Cluster Manager. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
