Installing Windows 2000 Professional

If youre upgrading from a previous version of Windows, it is recommended that you back up your important files. If youre performing a clean installation, you must back up any files you want to keep, or they will be lost. You can back up files to a disk or other backup media, or to another computer on your network.

How you back up your files depends on your current operating system. If youre using Windows 95 or Windows 98, you might need to install the Windows Backup program. If youre using Microsoft Windows NT version 3.51 or Windows NT 4.0, Windows Backup is installed by default. You must have a tape drive installed to use the Backup tool in Windows NT 4.0 and earlier.

For more information about installing or using Windows Backup, see your current version of Windows Help.
