Retrieve lost or overwritten content in Dashboard Designer

Updated: 2009-04-23

If the best practices listed in Back up and restore Dashboard Designer content have been followed, then the process of retrieving lost or overwritten content is a simple process. If they have not been followed, then this can be a very difficult and even impossible process.

Retrieving lost or overwritten content metadata on Monitoring Server

Retrieve the metadata

  1. Determine which dashboard was modified and then the .bswx file associated with the dashboard.

  2. Connect PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer to the server that the content needs to be retrieved from.

  3. Find the item in the dashboard that was lost or overwritten.

  4. Right-click the individual item, and then click Publish.

Note

If the content has been lost on the server, then it is impossible to retrieve. Check to see if there is a local copy on an analyst's computer, or attempt to retrieve a previous version. However, if the content on the server was overwritten by a blank item or by an item with its own version history, then the content may not be retrievable.
