Configuring a public name for a Web publishing rule

After you create a Web publishing rule in Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway, you may want to modify the public name of the published Web site or add another public name.

To configure a public name for a Web publishing rule

  1. In the Forefront TMG Management console tree, click Firewall Policy.

  2. In the details pane, click the applicable rule.

  3. On the Tasks tab, click Edit Selected Rule.

  4. On the Public Name tab, in This rule applies to, select one of the following:

    • All requests. Select this option when the rule will apply to any request for a URL containing any host name that resolves to an IP address specified for listening in the Web listener associated with the rule.
    • Requests for the following Web sites. Select this option when the rule will apply only to requests for URLs that contain a host name that is specified as a public name in the rule.
  5. If you selected Requests for the following Web sites, for each public name of a Web site that can be accessed, click Add, type the public name, and click OK.

  6. Click OK.

  7. In the details pane, click the Apply button to save and update the configuration, and then click OK.

Notes

  • We recommend that you publish only one Web site per rule. This is because personal data that belongs to one Web site may be visible when accessing another Web site published using the same public name.
  • Public Web site names must be registered with the Domain Name System (DNS). For more information, see DNS Web site registration.
  • Changes that you make to the properties of a Web publishing rule or the Web listener associated with it apply only to new connections.
