Planning automatic Web proxy detection

Internal users located in networks protected by Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway can automatically discover the location of a Forefront TMG server to be used as a Web proxy. Automatic discovery can be implemented using the Web Proxy Automatic Discovery (WPAD) protocol, or with a static configuration script. Planning automatic discovery consists of the following steps:

  • Select and configure an automatic discovery mechanism.
  • If you implement a WPAD solution, implement a WPAD server, and DNS or DHCP.
  • Configure client computers for automatic discovery.
