Step 2: Monitor the WCF Broker Node

In HPC Cluster Manager, you can customize the node Heat Map display and view performance charts to help you monitor Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) broker node performance.

Depending on your current needs, you can configure additional WCF broker nodes by changing the role of one or more compute nodes, and later scale back the broker nodes as appropriate. For guidelines about how many broker nodes to designate, see Configuring Nodes to Run HPC Sesssions (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=129516). Note that the head node can assume two roles, but a compute node can only assume one role at a time.

To monitor the WCF Broker node

  1. In Node Management, in the Navigation Pane, under Nodes, under By Group, click WCFBrokerNodes.

  2. Monitor current Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) service call rates:

    1. If you have three metrics displayed in your heat map, remove one of the displayed metrics (by clicking the associated Remove button) before proceeding to the next step.

    2. In the Metrics drop-down list, select WCF Broker Calls / second, then click Add to heat map.

    3. Run an SOA client, and you can monitor the current service calls from the heat map.

  3. View WCF broker node service call rates and performance over time:

    1. Right-click the head node, then click View Performance Charts.

    2. In the Performance Charts dialog box, in the Metric drop-down list, select WCF Broker Calls / second, then click Add.

    3. In the Metric drop-down list, select Available Physical Memory (Mbytes), then click Add.
