How to: Refresh Fields for a Dataset (Report Builder 2.0)
The dataset field collection includes the fields that are specified by the query and the calculated fields that you create. You use the Dataset Properties dialog box to specify the query. In some cases, you may use a query designer to help create a query, and run the query at design time to see example data. By running the query, you create the dataset field collection.
However, you may choose to create the query directly in the Dataset Properties dialog box and not run the query in a query designer. To populate the field collection, use the Refresh Fields button on the Dataset Properties dialog box.
The field collection does not appear in the Report Data pane until the Dataset Properties dialog box closes.
To refresh the fields for a specific dataset
In the Report Data pane, right-click the dataset, and then click Dataset Properties.
In the Query pane, type the query. Alternatively, you can use the Import button to import your query from another .rdl file.
Click Refresh Fields.
Click OK.
In the Report Data pane, expand the dataset node to view the currently defined field collection.
To refresh the fields for all datasets
- Run the report.
