Data Sources Supported by Reporting Services (Report Builder 2.0)

When you create an embedded data source in Report Builder 2.0, you must specify the data source type. Types of data sources include relational databases, multidimensional databases, and other sources of data. Report Builder 2.0 supports the following data source types: Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, Oracle, SAP NetWeaver BI, Hyperion Essbase, Teradata, OLE DB, ODBC, and XML. 

However, you might have additional options when you are connected to a report server. From a report server, you can browse to and include a shared data source in your report. The shared data source can use any data source type that is supported by the report server. For more information, see "Data Sources Supported by Reporting Services" in the Reporting Services documentation in SQL Server Books Online.

Report Builder 2.0 does not support the use additional data source types for embedded data sources. If you want to create reports that use additional data source types, you must use Business Intelligence Development Studio. BI Development Studio is included with SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services.
