Assigning a Device to One or More Groups

2/9/2009

The following procedure shows you how to assign a managed Windows Mobile device to one or more groups by using Mobile Device Manager Software Distribution Console. You can assign managed devices to one or more device groups, and then approve packages for each group. This lets you manage many devices more efficiently.

Before you perform this task, you must create a device group. For more information, see Creating a Device Group.

Every managed device will always be a member of the All Devices group. Until you add a managed device to a group that you create, it is also a member of the Unassigned Devices group. You can assign a managed device to multiple device groups.

Note

You can also use client-side targeting to assign managed devices to device groups. For more information, see Specifying the Method for Assigning Devices to Groups.

To assign a managed device to one or more device groups

  1. In the navigation pane, expand the Devices list, and then select All Devices.

  2. In the details pane, select the managed device that you want to add to a group.

  3. Right-click the managed device and then select Change Membership.
