Communicator Web Access Management Pack Readme

The Microsoft Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack monitors the health and availability of computers running Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) and following versions.

The Microsoft Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack readme describes how to install the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007.

Before You Import the Management Pack

Before you import the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack, you must install the updated Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Backward Compatibility Management Pack, version 6.0.5000.16. You can download the Backward Compatibility Management Pack at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=98874.

Note

If you do not install the updated Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Backward Compatibility Management Pack before you install the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack, your installation will fail.

Supported Applications

The Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack monitors computers running Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003. For the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack to function optimally, your computers must meet the following requirement:

  • Each server cluster must be managed by System Center Operations Manager 2007.

Note

You can run only one localized version of a converted Management Pack at a time. To use a version of the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack for a different language, uninstall the Management Pack and then install the version for the desired language.

How to Import the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack

Download the latest Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack files at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=82105. By default, the installer places the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack in its own folder in the following directory: C:\Program Files\System Center Management Packs.

The contents of the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack are as follows.

File Name Description

Microsoft.CommunicatorWebAccess.2005.mp

Required for discovering and monitoring servers running Communicator Web Access.

After you download the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack, import it to System Center Operations Manager 2007.

To import the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack

  1. In the Operations Console, on the Go menu, select Administration.

  2. In the navigation window, expand Administration.

  3. Right-click Management Packs, click Import Management Packs, select Microsoft.CommunicatorWebAccess.2005.mp, and then click Open.

  4. Follow the instructions in the wizard.

Optional Configuration

After you import the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack, it begins to discover and monitor computers without additional configuration. However, you can configure the Windows Communicator Web Access Management Pack for your preferences. For example, rules disabled by default can be enabled. Or, if the default enabled performance-measuring rules degrade server performance, you can disable them. Use the following procedure to enable a rule.

To enable a rule

  1. In the Operations Console, on the Go menu, click Authoring.

  2. In the navigation window, expand Management Pack Objects, and then click Rules.

    Note

    To show rules for the current Management Pack only, on the toolbar, click Scope, and then under Target, select the check boxes for the desired components.

  3. Under Rules, right-click the rule you want to turn on, point to Overrides, point to Override the Rule, and then click For all objects of type: <type of object>.

  4. Under Override-controlled parameters, in the Override column, select the Enabled check box.

  5. In the Override Setting column, in the drop-down menu, click True and then click OK.

Use the following procedure to disable a rule.

To disable a rule

  1. In the Operations Console, on the Go menu, click Authoring.

  2. In the navigation window, expand Management Pack Objects, and then click Rules.

    To show rules for the current Management Pack only, on the toolbar, click Scope, and then under Target, select the check boxes for the desired components.

  3. Under Rules, right-click the rule you want to turn off, point to Overrides, point to Disable the Rule, and then click For all objects of type: <type of object>.
